Is makeup good for acne?

The answer to this question is simple- Make is not good for acne. Minimal makeup is advisable if you wish to wear with eyeliner and a dash of lip color. I have acne. Is it okay to wear makeup? This is a common question that keeps ticking in many minds. Acne-prone skin is quite sensitive and difficult to deal with especially when you are applying makeup.

Why should you not wear makeup with acne?

Here are some important reasons why you should not wear makeup with active acne.

Thinking of hiding the pimple- Nah! Allow the skin to breathe

Make up can be a good idea to hide the pimples. But, at the end of the day, it will clog the pores and may suffocate the skin. Ideally you should not be wearing makeup if you have active acne. It is important to allow skin to breathe in cases of severe or moderate acne.

Makeup may aggravate the pimple

Wearing makeup will temporarily cover the acne bump and you may feel better after camouflaging it. But, this may increase the problem and aggravate the acne. Your skin may feel worse after wearing makeup. This may spread the infection on the face furthermore clogging the pores. Acne is caused by inflammatory bacteria which may multiply on skin due to excessive oiliness.

Overuse of makeup may cause skin irritation

Acne-prone skin is very delicate and sensitive. Smothering chemicals on the face can cause skin irritation with redness, rashes and itching. It is advisable to use minimal makeup for lips and eyes.

The pesky cycle of acne continues…

It is advisable to avoid unnecessary touching the acne-affected skin. Make up may result in touching the skin by spreading foundation and concealer. Also, there are chances of cross-contamination while handling the product and applying on skin. It is advisable to use minimal or no makeup products on skin with active acne as there are higher chances of multiplication.

So, next time while dealing with acne, ensure to avoid makeup completely. Be confident in your own skin.
